The great aspect in staying in high mountain huts in New Zealand is the view you get from the toilets. My two favourite huts are Almer Hut on the upper Franz Josef Glacier and Chancellor Hut on the Fox Glacier shown above. From this hut, (bottom right in the photo) you can see across the glacier, farmland to the sea. Renarkable.
No constipated views from there.
The writer does not intend to get into toilet humour but rather promote the views from them.

Howlett's hut and Top Maropea hut in the Ruahines also offer superb dunny vistas. Though the last time I was at Top Maropea stuck in a howling blizzard I saw the roof of it torn off and disappear into the bush. I did not bother with any "business" that night. Have a great day Bob.

ReplyDeleteA toilet with a view is important in the hills. Interesting to learn about the one at Howlett's and Maropea.
The best and highest ever was at the old Pioneer Hut, on the Fox neve. You could see Mount Douglas and Mt. Alack when you were sitting on it and if you poked your head around the corner Haidinger, Hassts Lenedfeld, Tasman and Torres, all 3000 metres plus peaks, were there in full glory. When I get a little time I would like to talk about the toilet at Vanda station in Antarctica where I wintered over in 1970. But keeping on this interesting subject I just used the bog in my apartment a few minutes ago and when you are sitting on it, I can look straight at the volcanoe Mt.Tangkubanperahu which I climebed with mu boy Ablai a few weeks back. Wew live on the 19th floor of an apartment.
