Secateurs: a revolutionary new management tool.
One week ago today I returned permanently to New Zealand and I have set up house in Christchurch, sdo I am having to but a lot of new tools for the houses and garden
A few days ago I bought a pair of secateurs to prune my rose bushes. Printed on the back were instructions to use the tool.
1. To encourage new growth.
2. Remove dead wood.
3. Remove diseased wood.
4. Remove branches that cross each other.
5. To promote flowers and fruit.
6. To create a more pleasing shape.
7. Remove poorly developed wood.

Excellent instructions and perfect for today's leaders to follow.
I would like to add a rose has thorns to protect it and whilst we need to trim the dead wood, we also need to coach and nurture the promising buds. So guys, get out your secateurs, and promote flowers and fruit.
Nice analogy Bob, although sometimes literally pruning the roses rather than mucking around in management is a better option!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your time with the Red Cross, big effort. I have enjoyed following your career on your blog for the last five year, very motivating.
Cheers

Well done Bob. It must be good to be back after all this time.
ReplyDeleteNext time I am back - and God knows when that will be - we can head up Little Mt Peel for a nice walk in the bush and sub-alpine scrub.
Cheers
Gollum
Thanks Jamie and Gollum for your feedback. It is a wonderful feeling being back in New Zealand (2 weeks) now and let's all join together for a climb sometime.
