The operation is over

Colin Monteath in the Kelley Range Arthurs Pass. Photo: Bob McKerrow
Bob looks great ....now he'll be able to get down on his knees and pray five times a day again...amazing machines here that help him bend the new knees which will speed recovery. Knowing Bob he'll push himself and will soon be on a zimmer frame...then a bicycle...then skis...you'll see! Lovely nurses here too..the one at the front door told me Bob had already escaped. I wanted to bring him red wine but thought the hospital wouldn't approve...so, red grapes had to suffice. Bob is not up writing so asked me to write this

Not so bright after having surgery for bi lateral knee joint replacement. The pain was the worst I have ever experiened once I had to start walking on them the day after the operation. It is better now and I am making progress on rehabilitation. Aroha my daughter is on the right, there to comfort her Dad.

FUTHER UPDATES ARE IN THE COMMENTS.

I'm abolutely delighted to hear that the operation went according to plans. Your pictures are fantastic. Now, I'm praying for a full recovery so you can continue the good work you do and to ride with your kids. Much blessings to you, your family and the medical team.

Crikey, are you sure Ed knows what he's doing? Those knees look to be in a rather strange position ;^)

Very pleased to hear the worst's over. Best wishes for a trouble-free and speedy recovery, Bob.

The last six days have been the most humbling and painful of my life.
To Tara and Rob, Pete, Paterika, Marja your love and support has been deeply appricated.
To my daughters Ruia and Aroha who have come every day, often twice a day, from busy schedules your love and support has made a huge difference.
82yrs old mountaineer Ed Cotter pop in yesterday and talked from the guide to the learner.
Colin Monteath has poped in and kept in phone contact.
Robin Judkins who hates hospital pops in on average for 2mins a day before running off into the christchurch mist.
Thanks to all other family and friends who are phoning regularly. I could not have done this alone.
To Ed Newman and staff I love your style, rough, tough and result vocus.
God bless you all, you have got me through a tough time. Bob
