Henrik Beer the great Red Cross leader

A very historic photo I unearthed yesterday of Henrik Beer Secretary General of the Federation IFRC, from 1960 to 1982. For those who knew most of the IFRC secretaries generals from 1930 to 1995, they unanimously agreed Henrik was the best we ever had. A committed humanitarian all his life, he perfected humanitarian diplomacy long before the phrase was coined. I was a cyclone shelter delegate in Tamila Nadu in 1980 to 82 when Henrik paid his last field visit before he retired in early 1982. Henrik is the balding man about to step into the car with a young Carl Naucler to his right after inaugurating one of the 233 cyclone shelters we built along the Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu coastlines.  For more information on Henrik Beer, you can read on my blog: http://henrikbeer.blogspot.com/2011/11/memories-of-henrik-
